except for = 除…之外
不能用except是因为except 的后面一定是个句子
例如 ： I received nothing except what was due to me.
what was due to me是个句子
用except for是因为 except for 的后面一定是个noun phrase (名词短语)
例如 ：The suitcase was light to carry, being empty except for two shirts.
two shirts 就是 (名词短语)
