Once upon a time,the time was in the 20th century.China was still ruled under the Qing dynasty.In a peaceful and quiet village of a certain western European country,there was an area of 11 kilometers square.The environment was wonderful without any pollution.The house looked like a palace and next to it was a church.In the garden grew all kinds of plants like bamboos,banana trees, lemon and orange trees,pear trees and date trees as well.In the field,they planted beans,potatoes,carrots,grapes and cabbages.Also, several cows and a great number of sheep were kept there but no pigs or hens(chickens).The owner was a rich farmer who lived together with his happy family.He loved horse races and took part in meny competitions.The organization awarded him many prizes and medals.His wife was a teacher who taught French grammar in a nearby high school.Her classes were always lively.She had three children:a pair of sweet but shy twin daughters and one lovely(cute) son.The twins always dressed themselves with solt silk skirts and light sweaters.The boy was always wearing a handsome cotton coat and training shoes.On the weekdays,the kids received education in a primary school.They were in different grades.On weekends and during holidays(vacation),they stayed at home and spent time with their parents.

The family enjoyed themselves all year round.They had different games and leaves in the green forest and enjoyed the fresh air while the boy climbed the trees like a monkey in the zoo.From time to time,he found birds'eggs.In hot summers,the boy went swimming or boating in the clear lake beside theirhouse with fish and ducks but not sharks.The girls were making cheese which was a necessary part of their diet.In cool autumns(falls),all members of the family picked fruits,vegetables and rice.They would sell the farming products later.Sometimes they had picnics on a low hill and enjoyed the beauty of the nature.In cold winters,the kids had a good time building up snowmen and dressed them with scarves.

The parents liked Jazz music and dance and.They had a deep influence on the kids and they organized a family musical band.They played different musical instruments.Mother played the violin,the elder sister played the piano,the younger beat the drum and the boy played the guitar.They practiced singing songs regularly and performed for the villagers in public during every festival and they also held concerts(every) now and then.They were well-known and famous among the neighbors(neighbors) and they had lots of fans in the neighborhood.They enjoyed great popularity and every song they sang would become a hit.What a family of musicians!

On the morning of a winter day,the temperature got very high.The man got thirsty so he drank water from the well.He found water level had become lower and it smelt terrible.It was unusual.Also,he saw his yard was crowded with turtles.He realized something was wrong,but what?In the afternoon,he went to see his personal dentist in the town.He needed a treatment for his toothache.On his way,he saw a snake in winter !Mice ran away from their holes under the wall and tried to dig another hole into the ground!"An earthquake"he tought.Quickly;he turned back and ran home.(A few scientists had given speeches in his village about their scientific studies on the science of earthquakes.)

Before he could arrive at home,the land started to shake.When he got to his village,it was in a panic.He found nearly his whole farm had been destroyed.His house was on a fire because of electricity.His loved ones were inside!He rushed upstairs and saw his son under a large piece of wood which weighed a lot.In heat,he carried him downstairs.When he returned to the heat,he broke the window glass of he bedroom to let the smoke lift.He didn't find his wife and daughters!In front of the house,he fell on his knees and cried at the fire.The fire didn't go out until(till) the next day.The sudden earthquake killed both his wife and the twins.His son was sent to a hospital.The doctor operated on him.Luckily,the nurse told him his son's skin was only burnt a little.In his diary,he wrote a poem.
