No matter what the situation,it is more harmful to compromise one's beliefs than to adhere to them.请从正反两方面论证
As the complexity of our society increasing, there appears so many situations in our daily life in which the issue of whether compromise one鈥檚 beliefs or adhere to them should be taken into serious consideration. Some would persist that holding on one鈥檚 beliefs is the basic principle of a man while the critics argue that compromising in extreme cases is more politic. In my own perspective,I did not agree to the point that no matter what the situation,it is more harmful to compromise one鈥檚 beliefs than to adhere to them.Instead,I would accept that compromise in certain situations when necessary is a much better choice------viewing both from international political decisions and from our own personal choice.
Before illustrating my point that one should compromise instead of adhere to settled principles in certain situations,I should first interpose a brief statement:just what is principle?Definitely, principle is something you hold consistently as a rule. But in certain cases, adhering to one鈥檚 principle--- if it does not accord to the modified situation---would bring nothing but harm.Churchill鈥檚 decision of aiding Russia to fight against Nazism just provides us with a good example. In May 22nd,1941,Germans had invaded Russia on an enormous front while Churchill, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, broadcasted a speech appealing to all citizens and allies to fight on against Nazism. As an arch anti-communist as Churchill is,why would he offer help to Russia? Was it an action of bending down in the House of Rimmons? When his secretary asked him such questions, his reply was:鈥淣ot at all.I have one single, irrevocable purpose and my life is much simplified thereby. If Hitler invaded Hell,I would make at least a favorable reference to the House of Commons.鈥 Also,in the speech broadcasted on BBC that night,he revealed his intention of compromise:鈥淣o one has been a more consistent opponent of communism than I have for the past twenty-five years.I would take back no word that I have said. But all this fades away before the spectacle which is now unfolding.鈥 Churchill鈥檚 compromise had not only saved the world from the catastrophe, but also led us to think deeper into the question:what is a principle for?Should we indiscriminately adapt our principle to any cases? As an anti-communist,Churchill should never go out to help Russia against Nazism because his principle is that communist countries are their enemies. But for the changing situation, for the good of all people from every quarter of the globe, for the peace of our world,Churchill made a resolute and wise compromise,to world鈥檚 enduring gratitude. In such cases, principle can be put aside for a while and compromise is surely the best solution.
Admittedly,in most of the cases, principle cannot be easily thrown away, especially when these principles are concerned with moral standards. For example,my principle is that you can never cheat in examinations,no matter what kind of examination it is.As for myself,I鈥檝e followed this principle for more than ten years since I took my first examination in primary school. If my friend wanted me to change my beliefs and cheated instead,I鈥檇 rather not regard him or her as a friend anymore than cheating since I know,it is the basic moral rule that everybody must obey,or he should be punished by teachers and disturbed by his own conscience.
However,I still strongly hold the point that compromising one鈥檚 beliefs is necessary. It is not that you can,but you must.In certain situations, not compromising will cause both you and your partner trouble. For instance,if your friend鈥檚 mother is so seriously sick that she may pass away in few days,a kind doctor would always advise you and your friend not to tell her because the knowing of the fact would deteriorate her illness.Unfortunately, you stubbornly hold your long-holding principle that everyone should tell truth and would never lie no matter what the situation is,just imagine what kind of consequence it might be!The above principle I hold is 鈥渘ever lie in examinations鈥 and I did not hold the point that we should 鈥渘ever cheat in any situations鈥?Sometimes, there exist situations that we really have to tell a white lie-----that is just what the word 鈥渨hite lie鈥 for.It then follows that you can never always adhere to your beliefs,no matter whether it is a significant political decision or it is just a domestic choice, for the good of both yourself and people around you.
To conclude,it is such a necessity to compromise one鈥檚 beliefs in certain situations rather than adhering to them.It is simply because of the time changing, and so should your beliefs. It is also because that sometimes only compromising can prevent you from hurting one鈥檚 feelings. On the other hand, our principle should also modify according to the changing of society and certain situations.Only by adjusting our beliefs that way can we gain a keen perception of our surroundings. For the complexity of the issue,I did not have the chance to present all the reasons, illustrations and the perspectives presented above are just a drop in the ocean. But one thing is certain:anyone who sincerely claims that no matter what the situation,he would never compromise is pretentiously talking ignorant nonsense.
