今天中央电视台在这里召开新闻发布会,是为了宣布中央电视台一个全新的全国性电视比赛的启动.这个比赛就是2010年度中央电视台英语演讲风采大赛.
经常关注我们的观众知道,此前,中央电视台每年都有两个英语比赛,一个是由社教节目中心主办,在科教频道播出的“希望之星英语风采大赛”,参与的主要是青少年,从2000年开始,持续举办了十年；一个是由海外中心主办,在英语频道播出的“CCTV杯全国英语演讲大赛”,参与的主要是大学生,从2002年开始,到现在也有8年的历史了.这两个比赛从一开始,就吸引了广大喜爱英语的电视观众参加,累计影响人数已经超过5000万人,成为每年一度的英语盛会,为英语教育的普及和对外交往能力的提升贡献了自己的一份力量.
在过去的十年,许多政府部门、组织给予了中央电视台两个英语比赛很多的协助,北京奥组委曾经与“希望之星”大赛进行了三年的合作,一起宣传奥运理念；外语教学与研究出版社自2002年起,始终支持“CCTV杯”大赛的运作；今年,上海世博局又将与中央电视台携手共同主办2010年度大赛.同样,外交部、教育部、人力资源与社会保障部、共青团中央、中国教育国际交流中心等各级部门都给予了我们极大的支持,在此我谨代表中央电视台,代表张长明台长向这些单位领导表示谢意,向全国所有关心、支持我们的领导、专家和老师们表示感谢!
