1.One day,Avanti rode a donkey passing by a Bayi’s house.Ah Jiao,the Bayi’s daughter,was upstairs and saw him.
一天,阿凡提骑着毛驴路过一家财主家的门口时,财主的女儿阿娇在楼上看到了他｡
2.Ah Jiao shouted to Avanti,“Hi,Avanti,people always say you are clever.But can you make me walk downstairs?”
阿娇向阿凡提喊道:“喂,阿凡提,人们都说你聪明,可你能使我走下楼吗?”
3.Avanti thought for a while,raised his head and said to Ah Jiao,“My dear young lady,if you made up your mind not to go downstairs,I have no way to do that.”
阿凡提想了想,抬起头来对阿娇说:“亲爱的小姐,如果您执意不肯走下楼,我也没有办法｡”
4.Ah Jiao laughed and said,“You really have no way to make me come downstairs?” Avanti answered,“But if you are downstairs,maybe I can make you go upstairs.”
阿娇大笑道:“你真的没有办法让我走下楼吗?”阿凡提答道:“如果你在楼下,也许我有办法让你走上楼去｡”
5.Hearing Avanti’s words,Ah Jiao didn’t believe that Avanti could make herself go upstairs,so she walked downstairs happily.
阿娇听了阿凡提的话,她不相信阿凡提能让自己走上楼去,于是她高高兴兴地走下楼来｡
6.“Now you think of a way to make me upstairs!” Ah Jiao said.“My dear young lady,” said Avanti,“I have already made you walk downstairs.”
“现在你想办法让我走上楼去吧!”阿娇说｡“亲爱的小姐,”阿凡提说:“我已经使您走下楼了｡”
