Senses of ability include to feel, to taste, to sound, to look, to smell. They are all link verbs, intransitive.
"too...to..." structure means sth. is so ... that people cannot accept it or accepted by the commons. Maybe the hot coffee is just like the sour apricot unfit for anyone in a summer lunch.
