not 是和much 搭配的,和前面的there is 没有关系
no 和 apples 搭配,因为apple 是名词.

no 一般用于否定名词
not 一般用于否定谓语动词

not 是跟be (am,is are), do/does/did, have/has/had, can/could/may等后面 构成否定句的，在句中不能单独出现
而no 则是一个纯粹的形容词性，没有的意思；通常跟名词，no money, no food, no people.
