我觉得第一句译文应该按字面意思翻译：正如像很多人知道的那样,蜘蛛是昆虫.而译文与我的恰好相反,为什么这么翻译?
里面的more 为什么这么翻译?

我也抱着学习的态度来回答这个问题：
1.第一句肯定是说“他们不是昆虫”，这个句子，去掉中间的插入语那么就是
Spiders are not insects nor even nearly related to them。中间的插入语引导，我也觉得不应该用as，而应该用unlike。否则，我认为意思就是“很多人认为蜘蛛不是是昆虫，他们也确实不是昆虫，甚至与昆虫毫无关系”。
2.其实也是插入语的问题，去掉“more than the wildest”，句子意思就明朗了， It is impossible to makeguess at how many insects they kill.
那个more than the wildest，就是对guess的修饰，也就是原句翻译的简直无法猜测，其实也是意译。more than 这里应该是不仅，超过的意思。就是说不仅仅是狂野的猜测或者超乎想象的猜测。
