English Sidelights is a magazine intended for students in our middle school to improve their oral and spoken expressions in English.It is published on the fifteenth of every month.
Contributions in the following forms and with the following contents are warmly
welcome,such as:
a.English stories,short plays and dialogues;
b.Popular science essays,writings through pictures;
c.Experiences and suggestions on how to improve spoken English;
d.Writings about what you have learned from English grammar;
e.Methods and suggestions on how to write well in English;
f.Suggestions on English teaching methods.
Contributions are expected to be within a 2000-word limit.They should be written clearly on one side of the paper,double-spaced,with a wide margin.Manuscripts in English must be typed.
Manuscripts,if not accepted for publication,will be returned to the writer within two months.Contributors will be paid after their manuscripts are accepted in publication.

Lantern Festival
The 15th day of the 1st lunar month is the Chinese Lantern Festival because the first lunar month is called yuan-month and in the ancient times people called night Xiao.The 15th day is the first night to see a full moon.So the day is also called Yuan Xiao Festival in China.
According to the Chinese tradition,at the very beginning of a new year,when there is a bright full moon hanging in the sky,there should be thousands of colorful lanterns hung out for people to appreciate.At this time,people will try to solve the puzzles on the lanterns and eat yuanxiao (glutinous rice ball) and get all their families united in the joyful atmosphere.

Environment is very important to us.If we don't notice it,the environment will become worse and worse.So we should protect our environment.
We can ofen see someone throw the rubish in the pack or in the cinema.And you can also hear some peeple cut down the trees in the forests on TV.Those are humen who destroy the environment.People are wasting the water while they are washing thier hands.
So we must do it like this:
Don't cut down trees in the forest.
Don't put the dirty things in the garden.
Don't pollute the water and don't waste them.
We must plant more and more and take good care of them.
We must protect the animals and get on with them.
Don't eat wild animals in the restauran.
