1、it是形式宾语,代指后面"you can help me with(你的句子里with 和 me错位了） the problem",一般用形式宾语或形式主语都是因为宾语或主语太长了,所以动词后就用"it"来代替.
2、你说得对,though/although 就是转折的意思,再加but意思就反了,这是固定用法,有了though/although,从句就不能加but
3、"It seems hard to believe +that……"是固定用法,"what is now an international sport "这是从句的主语,意为“现在是一个国际化运动的运动”what 代指“……的运动”that 和 what前后是不同的结构都必加的,所以缺哪个都不行
4、that 引导主语从句,不加that 一个句子就有两个动词,显然是错的
