Now we are in front of the Bai Causeway. The willows and peach trees are planted in pairs at regular intervals all along the causeway. Here is the most beautiful place of the West Lake. Look! The Bai Causeway is called Baisha Causeway originally, which means the Causeway with white sands. More than one thousand years ago in Tang Dynasty, there are beautiful white sands on the Causeway. At the end of the Bai Causeway, there is a broken bridge. The one-kilometer’s Bai Causeway is “broken” here.
Speaking of the “Broken Bridge, ” many of you will ask, “The bridge is not bridge. Why is it called ‘Broken Bridge’?” Let me answer your question. The Broken Bridge is one of the well-known ten sights of the West Lake, which locates between the city and the hills, dividing the waters of the North Inward Lake and the Outward Lake. With a wide view of snow, The Broken Bridge is the best place for snow viewing in the winter. When the snow starts melting, the snow on the south side of the bridge melts earlier than the north side. Viewing for far, we find the bridge looks as if it were broken. That’s why the sight here is called “Lingering Snow On Broken Bridge.”
