电影Wall-e的英文介绍,
WALL-E
Directed by Andrew Stanton, out July 18th in cinemas, starring Ben Burtt,Sigourney Weaver and Jeff Garlin, running time 90 mins.
In a nutshell...
Little robot with big heart
What's it all about?
WALL-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter,Earth Class) is alone on Earth, diligently crushing humanity's rubbish into easily handled cubes. His only friends are a mute cockroach and the fascinating objects he finds amongst Earth's detritus, when super-sleek robot EVE arrives and changes his world.
When EVE (Extra-terrestrial Vegetation Evaluator) returns to her spaceship WALL-E has to follow his only friend, and discovers the last of the human race.
Who's in it?
There is hardly any traditional voicework in WALL-E.Ben Burtt, the man behind R2D2's bleeps and whistles, creates much of the sound made by WALL-E and EVE.Although both characters don't really talk, the noises they emit communicate their meaning extremely well and you can hardly suppress a smile when WALL-E says his name.
There are some human characters in the film and their voices are well executed, but they are mostly peripheral to the robotic creations.
As an example...
"Waalllleeeee." - WALL-E
Likelihood of a trip to the Oscars
If the best achievement in animation Oscar fails to be awarded to WALL-E,I should think the whole world would have the right to fall off their seats in shock.Pixar should almost certainly walk away from next year's ceremony with more than one little gold man, most likely also achieving the Oscar for best sound.
What the others say
"WALL-E is a character of genius,as pure and wondrous an example of the possibilities of animation as you will ever see. He's an encapsulation of all the medium鈥檚 ability to give anything personality." - Empire
"WALL-E (the character) is eminently lovable,by far the film's most human inhabitant. And yet WALL-E (the movie) actually has more in common with EVE.It is an exquisitely rendered piece of work; beautiful, flawless, serious in its intent and hermetically sealed." 鈥 Guardian
So is it any good?
WALL-E is a hugely brave undertaking for Pixar. With the knack for creating original characters and storylines loved by children and adults the world over, making vast amounts of money, and winning so many best animation Oscars along the way they're probably considering buying a new trophy cabinet,WALL-E is a massive departure for them.
You cannot see WALL-E,a trundling trash receptacle with binocular eyes, little speech and only a cockroach for a friend, being suggested at a marketing meeting or a shareholders conference.WALL-E was borne out of love and a desire at Pixar to do something different.
And,boy, did they succeed. For the first part of the film,WALL.E is alone on Earth, faithfully collecting and organising humanity's rubbish. The human race has long since abandoned Earth to wait for it to be cleaned up again, leaving our home planet a dystopian science-fiction wasteland. The landscapes are vast and, although filled with skyscrapers of rubbish, strangely empty.WALL-E rattles amongst them, happily collecting treasures. This is when the film is at its best and most amusing,as WALL-E investigates fire extinguishers,Rubiks cubes, and where sporks belong in his cutlery collection.
WALL-E is an adorable creation and a superb example of Pixar's genius to give anything personality or even a gender.Even though he has no eyebrows, mouth, nose, ears or language,WALL-E has expression by the bucket-load,with soundman Ben Burtt largely responsible 鈥 indeed it's probably fortunate that there is little dialogue as the cries of adoration from the young audience would surely have drowned it out. This little robot will without doubt become the most popular toy and/or novelty bin this year.
EVE arrives, and our little hero is captivated by this Apple-like-designed space probe. For two characters made of metal and created digitally in a computer,EVE and WALL-E somehow have chemistry on screen and the romance as they fly through space or try and hold hands can truly be felt. When EVE completes her directive and has to leave Earth,WALL-E cannot bear to be parted from her and so follows her into space.
The film stumbles a little as the scenery changes from a lonely planet Earth and the vast emptiness of space to the setting of humanity's cruise ship.Having relied on robots for centuries, humans have evolved into round dumpling-like beings that have forgotten how to walk.WALL-E is the greatest example of humanity within the film and not having him at centre-stage begins to deprive the film of its charm. The lack of dialogue and shiny action could disappoint children, and the message behind it ("I don't want to survive,I want to live!") could be a little cumbersome.
However,Pixar's outstanding animation clinches its 'classic' status. So often you simply forget it is animation you are watching, with the pinpoint accuracy and a perfect, obsessive level of detail. The scratches and dents on WALL-E's bodywork look so real that you can almost feel the rough metal in your mind. How do you animate a star-lit sky and a delicate swirl of galaxies? It is achingly beautiful and I doubt if even Sir Patrick Moore could find a fault.
Despite slight foibles with the storyline WALL-E is an astounding animated film that can comfortably be in the company of Toy Story,Finding Nemo and Ratatouille.
This year's prime Christmas gift?Right here.
