English, the most widely used language in the world, is one of the working languages in the United Nations. The relevant statistics show that there are around 172 countries speaking English, some of which using it as mother language or official language, some of which as the second language.  
In China, as the second language, it is one of the obligatory courses each student has been learning form primary school to college. Our government attaches great importance to the study of English in that its importance.  
With the rapid development of the economic globalization, especially after China getting into the WTO, English can help our country to keep in step with the tide of the times. Today, the international communication is becoming more and more frequent. Therefore, by English, we can know more and better about the diverse culture from foreign countries to widen our sight; we can learn the advanced technology and managerial technique to perfect our own economic system. What’s more, English can help our country to communicate and cooperate with other countries to boost our enterprises’ international competitiveness. 
As one of the four civilized ancient countries of the world, China holds 5,000-year splendid civilization and history. And nowadays, according to survey, more and more western people are interested in our Chinese culture. So, learning English well can help our people to communicate with foreign people who are Chinese culture lovers and can help to make our traditional Chinese 
culture known in the world. 
Not only is the English beneficial and vital to our nation, but also to each person of us.  
English plays an important role in everyone’s job-hunting in today’s society. As we all know, most companies have certain requirement to its employees on English ability. Especially in those multinationals, they have high standard on the English writing and speaking. So, if you have learned this language pretty well, you are dominant in job-hunting comparing with those who haven’t done. 
To a travel lover, English is quite helpful. I have heard that many travelers are unwilling to go abroad, not because they really don’t want to, but because they are feel uneasy on condition of obstacle in communication. That’s the point. Besides, travel in another country, but cannot speak the common used language, one must miss a lot of fun and gain little. If you can speak English, you may travel lots of places in the world alone to feel the local custom, to eat the local dish, to share the happy time and the experience with travelers from different countries. To learn English well and travel through the world are my dream all the time. 
As a matter of fact, the advantage of learning English is far more than what has been mentioned. Lenin said,“Language is the most important of human intercourse.” Our human use it for the expression of thought and feelings. English, the most widely used communicating tool, should be learned well by each Chinese student.
