华兹华斯从小在秀丽的湖区成长,受大自然蕴育,纯净心灵很容易受到大自然触动.这首短诗是他32岁作品,以彩虹为意象.第1-4行叙述从小到现在已成年,看到彩虹时雀跃的情感；第4-6行连续以So was it、So is it、So be it的重复语法来强调凸显这种情感；第6行更以短促的四音节句子,表现希望此情能长存到老,否则宁愿死的情感转折及迫切心情；第7行The child is father ofthe man是本诗诗眼,蕴含有从小可以看大及小孩纯真的心反而是大人的父亲-启示大人如何感应大自然；8-9行对未来并无把握能保有纯净天真的心(看到彩虹的雀跃之情),故只以虔诚的祈愿作结.
