1.放弃,抛弃；辞去(工作、学业等)：
When you get married,will you give up your job?

2.交出；让出；自首：
He refused to give the document up,even under pressure.
即使受到压力,他仍拒绝交出文件.
After hiding in the hole for several days,the escaped prisoner gave himself up.

3.对…不再抱有希望；不再指望…到来：
You took so long to arrive that we had almost given you up.

4.[口语](解难题、猜谜等时)承认无能为力,承认失败：
